POKOTABI / Colette
コレット
Colette, a French pâtisserie in Nishijin, serves tarte Tatin made with different apple varieties alongside seasonal fruit tarts. Choosing something to take home is part of the pleasure.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Colette, part of the pleasure of ordering tarte Tatin is choosing the apple variety. On one visitor’s trip, 5 varieties were available. They chose a tarte Tatin made with Haru Kogyoku apples, whose sweetness, tartness and juicy flesh were paired with pastry that was crisp yet tender and crumbly. You might try a variety you already know, or be drawn to one whose name is new to you. The selection on the day is part of the appeal.
There are also tarts and cakes made with seasonal fruit. One customer who bought apricot and blueberry pastries remembered the flavour of the sour cream. Others have mentioned lemon tart and pecan tart, offering options whether you are after the tang of fruit or a nut-based pastry.
For baked goods, there is also a pear-shaped salted sablé. It makes a good coffee-time treat, and is another way to try the pastry said to be used as the base for the cheese tart. You could take something home to enjoy with tea. The shop is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00, and accepts cash only.
